The 2009 Welsh IRB Championships will take place next weekend, 13 & 14 September at Barry Island.

Heats (x3) for each event will take place on Saturday with semi finals and finals taking place on Sunday. We intend to start at 10am on both days. Officials/Competitor briefings and boat checks etc will take place at the Clubhouse at 9.30am on Saturday. For those of you unfamiliar with the location of the Clubhouse it is situated at the far west side of the beach – (Gavin & Stacey fans will recognise it as being near where Nessa’s Xmas Grotto tent was situated in the Xmas Special last year.)

IRB Teams from throughout Europe will be taking part in this event and we would like to thank the Vale of Glamorgan Council and Barry St John SLSC for the help and sponsorship of this inaugural event in Wales.

All participating teams need to bring an IRB (if your Club has one) together with an ‘official’ to help out at the competition. If your Club  does not own a boat or you are travelling by Ryan Air we do understand that you wish to enter but due to circumstances cannot supply a boat. All equipment provided will be used on a pooled basis with lanes being drawn prior to events taking place.

There will be a ‘night out’ in a local hostelry Saturday night and Barry St John SLSC have kindly offered the services of the Clubhouse floor for anyone who wishes to stay over Saturday night and not use the facilities of their home, local hotel, B&B, car, pavement, beach etc to sleep on.

Can you please ensue that entry packs are returned to

powercraft@slsawales.org and info@rescueboatwales.org  by 6pm on Thursday 10 September.

SLSA Wales Powercraft will be running a training session at Coney Beach, Porthcawl on Wednesday night at 6pm for all interested parties to discuss rules, tactics etc.

I have also attached a poster for our ever popular IRB Training Weekend at St Davids on 3 & 4 October. If you have an interest in IRBs or are thinking about getting involved this is the event for you - This year should be better than ever with guests from Australia & New Zealand attending for the first time who are prepared to share with us their wealth of knowledge and experience.
